Can U Use Alcohol In Airbrush For Cake Decorating

I have a new airbrush system but i realized most people thin thier icing with vodka to airbrush but i cannot use alcohol of any kind even in an extract, does anyone have any suggestions like does an emulsion dry as fast as alcohol or not or if my only option is water? and any suggestions on preventing my brush from clogging.

I think the best thing to do is buy colors that are made to go through the airbrush. There are several brands that sell them and they really aren't that expensive.

The only think I mix alcohol with is dusts when I airbrush. Everything else that has gone through my airbrush is the colors made for it.

By the way if you wanted to mix colors with something besides alcohol, I would do it with lemon extract, but then again, there is alcohol in it.

My issue with mixing gel colors with anything is that it doesn't completely desolve and you can still have clumps in it, or I always have. Those clumps can clog the airbrush.

You really should not need to thin airbrush color. It's MADE for the airbrush. And you really shouldn't use anything else. Airbrushes are quite "sensitive" to clogs.

Not to go against the grain, but I use diluted powdered colors (with vodka) in my airbrush ALL the time. I have never once had a clog that lasted more than 2 seconds and it was because I didn't add enough vodka. I just make sure to clean out the brush well after every use.

Lil Miss, I've used pearl/luster dusts mixed with everclear and it was okay.

I read the OP's question as what can I add to regular icing color gels/pastes to make something to put through the airbrush. Maybe I read it wrong.

Yes, I've used powdered colors also. Not a problem. Gel colors can be a problem though.

Sometimes the ready-made airbrush coloring is too bright and I'm looking for a pastel shade. Diluting with "white" doesn't work nearly as well as just adding water.

I was more responding to the only airbursh colors in your airbrush ever because they clog with anything else comment than the original question.

I have no idea what to use in place of alcohol. I am assuming it is for religious reasons that it cannot be used?
